Directly west of Fisherman’ road launch is still producing good numbers of perch. Slip bobbers are the main method for producing fish. No more than ¼ crawlers on the hook has been key. An occasional bonus walleye has been noted.
Third Reef: I did very well there on Monday with perch. Tight to the bottom with slips produced all the fish. The majority of bigger perch were taken on a rig with a green bead just above the hook. A little motion/retrieve produced several perch over 1 pound. Walleyes, Sheeps, and white bass were also caught in the 3-8” range. Look for rock or transition areas to fish.
East of Third Reef: (I believe the area is referred to as “Mud gins”). There were about 20 boats in this area on Saturday morning with only a few reports of perch being taken. Action was very slow, and on Monday afternoon only a few boats were working the same area.
North of Fisherman’s road: Reliable source told me of walleyes being taken in the 10-14” size range in about 9-10’ of water. Method used was horizontally drifting ice fishing jigs in the pink color, tipped with a partial crawler.
Trolling: I did pick up several small walleyes, sheepheads and white bass on crawler harnesses. .9-1.2 mph was the strike speed. No luck with hatchet blades. Purple seemed to be the trigger color. Shad Raps, Thundersticks, and larger raps continued to foul with floating vegetation, and were useless. A former PWT fisherman suggested that a bead with a three way connector or swivel be placed 10-15 feet up the line. This would keep the lure clean by attracting the vegetation before it reached the lure. Haven’t tried this yet, but sounds like it could work.
