Mud Trolling:  The far southern areas of the lake are still tough to troll due to heavy aquatic weeds floating in the area.  Water clarity is still limited.  The water conditions improve once north of Fisherman’s road/Fraction Island area.  Trolling produced many white bass and some average sized walleyes.  The walleyes were striking on a faster trolling speed, 2.2 to 2.7 mph this week.  Reef runners, shad raps, and Hot n Tots working best.  No key color other than very bright.

Fisherman’s road area

The reef northwest of the launch about 1.5 miles had very heavy traffic all weekend.  Perch have been caught in good numbers.  Perch fishing was best with still presentations of dead sticks or slip bobbers.  Crawlers/leaf worms seemed to have the best success.

Walleyes are also active on the reef.   Walleye action was best with crawler or leech on a jig.  Twister tales have also worked for eyes.

Weed Beds

I have also been hearing reports of walleye being taken along weed beds in shallower water.  Look for weed beds surrounded by large flats area.  It might be a good idea to try a few of these areas next week. Crank baits, Cleo’s, and slip bobbers tight to the bed are suggested.  Try to run parallel to the strike zone with cranks and Cleo’s.

Third Reef

No reports this week
