Third Reef
The third reef has had its share of action over the last week. The fish have been a smorgasbord of species, including catfish, sheep, rock bass, perch, whites, walleye, bluegills and other. Slip bobber are the most common method of fishing. Perch and walleye were all on the small side. Better sized perch can be found north of the reef. Be sure to check the man made reefs also.
Western Reefs (Long Point, Abrams, Sonnenberg, Genes, Pebbles & Jabber’s)
Some limited success on these reefs this week for walleyes. Most walleyes taken were in the 13-17” range. Best method was with jigs, either drifted or dragged across the bottom. Pink jigs out produced all other 2:1. Orange was next best. Moving reefs was critical until active fish were found. Unnamed reefs/humps also producing so don’t be afraid to stop and check them out.
Mud Flats
Trolling has been extremely slow for walleyes. Only a few fishermen working this method currently. Best bet is trolling harness with crawlers.
Fisherman’s road area
Perch fishing is still strong. The hottest area was south of the launch maybe a mile. Nice sized perch on slip bobbers are common. Bait needs to be tight to the bottom. Some success with 2-3 waxies per hook as bait was being reported. Transition areas are key fishing locations.
