Trolling southern mud flats
Conditions have improved with regards to water clarity and floating vegetation. Cranks were some what effective this week, but the bite has slowed down considerably from weeks past. Areas south of Fisherman Road launch have been productive for 12-15” eyes, white bass, and sheephead. Areas directly north of Fond du Lac had no reports available. The flats adjacent to the west side reefs (south east of Black wolf run) were active and producing larger walleye. Crawler harness and cranks working equally as well. Walleyes were in a cold front mode late in the week, and slower speeds (1.7 mph w/cranks) seemed to work better.
Fisherman’s Road
Little change from last week. The crowd is still working the reef 1.5 mile NW of the launch and directly west of the launch. Perch are been taken in good numbers but fish are on the small size. Favorite method is dead stick with meat, or the handy old slip bobber. Walleyes are still present in the area. Early morning and evening bite for perch.
Abrahams Reef, Gene’s Reef, Long Point, Pebbles Reef and Jabbers Reef
When the wind is kicking the walleyes are on top of the reefs. I found some nice sized walleyes this week (24” & 30”) on these areas. Drift jigging was successful, but you have to move reefs to find them. Other walleyes ranged from 11” to 16” were common. Gene’s reef had a lot of perch action going, especially with slip bobbers and crawlers.
This is my last report for a while as next week is the National Championships for Musky in Eagle River. I’m out. Mark
