Let me start the report this way. Conditions are changing everyday. Walleyes are active in all regions of the southern part of the lake, on many types of methods.
Fisherman’s Road Area
Perch activity seems to be the choice currently from this area. Heavy boat traffic just south of the launch about 1 ½ miles. Good numbers and good sized perch being taken on dead sticks with either crawlers or hellgrammites. Slip bobbers also work well. Walleye bite has been steady, both on the reefs on windy days, and trolling on calmer days. Purple tends to be the best color, followed by rip shads in perch, fruit loop, and hot steel. Small white bass are common during trolling, along with plenty of aquatic weeds. Check those lines often. Saturday the Coast Guard was doing boat checks at the dock. No fines given, rather just good advice.
South East Mud
Trolling bite is also steady here. Very few limits reported, but decent walleyes being taken in the 14-18” range. Hot n’ tots, thunder sticks, and reef runners being the hottest ticket. Orange bellies a must while trolling. Red colored lips/bills also worked well. Fishing boat traffic was very light this weekend in the area.
Third Reef
Steady traffic on the reef, mainly in search of perch. No reports of successes or failures here.
North of Fisherman’s (Mud)
A solid mud bite is taking place, especially in the 15-17 foot depths. Fish have generally ranged in the 12-18 inch ranges from the reports I have received. Speeds 1.7-2.0 produced the most fish. The reef between Fisherman’s and Columbia Park has been very slow. Fishermen have been very tight lipped regarding crawler harness fishing. That’s an indicator that might be working very well right now, but I can not confirm.
