South Shore report

In General:  The dog days of summer are here.  Boat traffic has been very light this week and reports are scarce.

Mouth of the FDL River

Still some perch activity on the mouth of the river just off the last buoy.  Hottest method is the crawler/hellgrammite on a slip bobber. Fish are tight to the bottom.

Mud flats

Heavy storms on Sunday have stirred the water, and the water clarity is about 1 foot.  Beware of floating debris (wood etc).  Coupled with the heavy algae bloom and abundant floating vegetation, trolling is very difficult.  Big, bright colored baits with good vibration are a must tipped with a chunk of crawler to add scent.  Fish are tight to the bottom when found.  Pink colored shad raps worked best.   The best water conditions seemed to be north of Fraction Island.

Third Reef

Had some success here this week.  There seems to be a nice school of Largemouth bass in the area, and I did pick up quite a few with jigs and crawlers.  All were on the small side.  Walleyes picked up on the same method, most in the 8-13” range.  Pink jigs were the hot ticket this week, followed by orange.  Some perch also being taken.
