Fishing conditions in the south end changed drastically over the last week.  A cold front pushed through the area on Thursday night; thus, slowing the area drastically from a strong start to the week.

Pre front conditions were excellent for mud trolling – especially south of Fisherman’s road.  Cranks (in bright colors) placed back 25-45 feet were effective.  Crawler harnesses worked well also, especially with hatchet blades in yellow.  Reef bite was moderate, with some fish taken on slip bobber rigs.  Leeches and worms working equally as well.

Post front conditions were very weak for any type of trolling.  All areas south of Wendt’s and Fisherman’s road were tried with little walleye success.  Trolling was producing white bass and sheep heads in this area.  On Sunday, only two boats were trolling this area between 6 and 10 am, with no boats in the 3rd reef area all weekend.  Walleyes were found in good numbers on top of the reefs, especially Abrams Reef.  Several of the top finishers in the Mercury Tournament were on this reef either still fishing or drift fishing.  Crawler/jig combos worked best, along with dead sticking with a crawler.   Others were producing with slip bobbers.  This was true only during the chop.  When the chop flattened out the fished moved to deeper water near the reef, Trolling was then effective.  Long Point was producing with crawler harness, especially in gold.   Perch bite is starting to heat up both on the Southeast and Southwest side of the lake.
