Conditions have changed on a daily basis on the main lake this week. Ice out is nearly complete; however, some parts of the lake have wind blown ice sheets. Currently, the south end has an ice jam as far as you can see in Fond du Lac. This area was completely open last week As the winds shift the ice will also, so be diligent in watching for ice sheets if you venture on the main lake. The big hole in FDL was very slow for pan fish. The lagoon in FDL and FDL River are at very high stages, which may result in some good spawning opportunities as the weather warms.
The Wolf River is producing a few male walleyes, with a random female. The current is very strong, so be prepared with heavier weights if fishing a Wolf River rig system or jig. The bridge at Winneconne is also slow. The water temperatures have dropped significantly this week, and have slowed fishing immensely. Night fishing is still producing better numbers of fish.
The Fox River is very murky with high water currents. Water temperatures reached 44.7 on April 6th, but had dropped to 35.6 degree on April 13. Fish are present but not active. Stinger hooks are a must, as the bite is light. This week’s forecast projects a warming trend which could turn the fish on in a hurry. I expect very favorable conditions heading into next weekend. Some perch can be had at the dam in Eureka, but are on the small size. If you wish to help contribute to this report, please email me at [email protected] .
