Winnebago System Fishing Report
The main lake is still 1/2 covered with ice, but the strong winds are helping to break the ice up. The Fox River in Oshkosh is producing males in the 14-17” range. Minnows or gulp with a jig, being the most productive method. The water is very stained, so bright colors are recommended. Fish seemed to be stacked in front, under, and behind the bridges while we were out on Sunday. The bridges on the Winnebago side (east) of Rainbow Park in Oshkosh had higher concentrations of fish. Water temps were in the upper 30’s to low 40’s this weekend. Some of the feeder creeks off of the main lake were being fished, but I received no reports of how they were doing. The big hole in FDL is wide open, and open water now exists on the south side of the main lake out to the third reef.
The Wolf River is starting to heat up, especially at night. Wolf River rigs are working best from an anchored position. Drifting was not as effective as anchoring this week. The Winneconne bridge remains slow for Walleyes, with occasional spurts of activity.
