Weekend rains removed the heavy snow cover from Lake Winnebago, and the following days produced some very cold temperatures. Ice was thickening rapidly, but this looks to be short term after 10+ inches of snow on Friday with multiple storms setting up for this weekend and early next week. The snowpack continues to make travel difficult, and reduces the ability of the lake to produce ice.
Recent ice reports are generally in the 5-8” range, with some locations getting close to 10 inches, especially near ice shoves. Overall, the ice is not very uniform, and extreme caution needs to be taken for safety.
Fishing reports have not changed from last week, as similar trends still exist. There have been some small perch active near the BP Gas Station (Scott St and National Ave) in FDL, but nothing here to brag about. Blue Gills and crappies are still in shallow water. Look for weeds to help locate these fish.
