Many fishermen have given up on Lake Winnebago until early ice, in favor of hunting. The near vacant lake has water temperatures in the low 50’s with occasional dips into the upper 40’s.
Fishing reports are very scarce. The perch fishing has slowed greatly, but some are still being caught where green weeds remain. The perch (and bluegills) will be working their way toward shallow water in preparation for first ice. Opportunities still exist for these fish from the boat. Usually this time of year, minnows are the key attractant because they offer a quick high calorie food source.
Bass fishing has been solid on Lake Winnebago. Look for aluminum or wood docks for target areas. Secondary locations would be shallow water rock. These areas heat up faster during the day, and many of the bass are seeking warmer water. Slow presentations are best.
Large numbers of fish are showing up in the Fox River throughout Oshkosh. It is believed that these fish are a mix of species, but mainly white bass and walleyes which moved out of the main lake when the rains occurred recently. Nearly all of these fish are in negative feeding modes currently.
The Wolf River has seen a large influx of Crappies into the river. These fish can be found along wood which is submerged into the water.
The system is very slow currently, due to the large amount of food sources present in all areas of the system. As these sources deplete, there will be plenty of opportunities for perch, white bass and walleyes.
[email protected] is my email. It is good to be back up and running again. Next report as conditions change.
