Lake Winnebago has been on a steady weather pattern during the past week or so.  Ice depths on Sunday varied from 24” to nearly 30” of ice in the locations which we drilled.  Vehicle travel is fairly easy, especially when you stay on the main roads.  I did notice a little heavier drifting along the western shoreline.

Fishing has been sporadic this week.  The southern part the lake had very few reports of success except near Subway road where small perch have been caught.  The area near Wendt’s and Long Point had a good bite earlier in the week for perch and walleye, but slowed down over the weekend due to very cold temperatures.  We worked Wendt’s and Abraham’s reef hard on Sunday, with only an eelpout to show from 10 guys.   While on Abrahams we marked a lot of perch, but could not get any to bite on any presentation method.

Merritt Street (Oshkosh) fishing has started to improve again with walleyes, white bass, sauger, and perch.  Look for the large group of fisherman to get a starting point.  Spoons with just a head of the minnow were working well.  I don’t suggest joining the crowd but rather targeting those fish which are away from the traffic.

Quinney has seen a lot of activity at the 7 mile marker.  There continues to be walleye, sauger and white bass taken regularly in the mud.  See last week’s report.  There was very little action at Fisherman’s road this week.  I did not receive any reports from Lake Poygan this week.

Keep the reports coming.  [email protected].  Also take a minute to register in our biggest sturgeon speared contest.  Register your guess as to the largest sturgeon speared in 2009 on the My Fishing Partner forum and the closest weight is the winner.  Entries must be made by Feb 13 and spearing starts on Valentine ’s Day.  Winner gets a gift certificate from Mills Fleet Farm or Bass Pro along with one of the stylish my fishing partner hats!
