Two people had to be rescued night after their vehicles got stuck on area lakes during a snowstorm Tuesday evening.

At 7:06 p.m., the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office received a report that Zach Sargent, 20, of Niagra, was on Lake Winnebago when his vehicle got stuck. Sargent tried to walk back to shore, but became disorientated. His friends, who contacted the sheriff’s office, told authorities that Sargent’s cellphone was running out of power, said Winnebago Sheriff’s Lt. William Anthes.

Authorities eventually were able to contact Sargent by phone and get coordinates for his location. A Department of Natural Resources warden then located Sargent and brought him back to shore at Menominee Park , Anthes said.

A 7:10 p.m., authorities received a call from Renee Raether, of Omro, alerting them her 16-year-old son Taylor got his car stuck in a snowbank on Lake Poygan, near Lake Poygan Road.

The rescue boat arrived at the boat landing at 7:46 p.m., but Raether’s father had already located the teen and brought him back to shore. Deputies verified all were safe at 8:06 p.m.

Both vehicles were left on the ice overnight and the owners were responsible for making arrangement to remove them when the weather improved, Anthes said.
