Korey Sprengel continued to have a hot stick on the Cabalas National Walleye Tour (NWT). A full field of 131 of the best walleye anglers and their co-anglers hit the water on Friday and Saturday, launching out of Sturgeon Bay, WI. Sprengel won the event with 75 pounds on 10 fish. Joe Okada took second with 63 pound with just 8 fish.
The weather was a major factor with a strong cold front playing havoc with the field. Saturday featured severe thunderstorms moving across the bay, with nearly all contestants scrambling to find shelter. On Saturday, temperatures’ starting in the 40’s moved to near 60 degrees for the high temperature. The key component anglers were seeking was warm water, where the walleyes were stacked.
Ultimately most anglers focused on some type of warm crawler harness, while a few did well on crankbaits.
