Update: John Gillespie did catch a massive walleye on Lake Erie. It went an impressive 31″ and about 12 pounds. As suspected, the story had some truth to it, but the size and weights did not match the true story.
2/25/14…….Let me start this with….This may be a hoax, but it appears John Gillespie may have iced one of the biggest walleyes in recent times. I will reserve judgment, until I get a real verification. I suspect there may be some Photoshop involved here (I’m a Skeptic). It is too good not to post, so I do so with regrets in advance if it does not prove to be true. The story is that this was caught on Lake Erie (Ohio).
S0 here is the email I received from some respectable (MULTIPLE) sources.
This 41 inch monster Walleye (weight unknown) was caught in 27 ft. of water by one lucky ice fisherman.
Estimated weight is 20-22 lbs making it one of the largest Walleye ever caught in the entire country. They are waiting for the weight to be officially verified but it looks to have completely smashed the previous state record of 16 lbs 3oz.
This is fantastic news and speaks volumes for our fishery.
