Some fast action is coming to the water in Oshkosh. Shake the Lake powerboat racing will take place on Lake Winnebago in Millers Bay Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5 and 6. The event is affiliated with the Badger State Outboard Association, a club that has organized outboard powerboat races since 1942. The boats in these races are small but they can really move. In the Junior Division, boat speeds top 40 miles per hour. In the 750CC Modified Hydroplane Division, speeds top 80 miles per hour.

The races are a lot of fun to see. Come to the lakeshore and join the fun on Labor Day weekend.

The state’s top BMX riders are coming to Oshkosh Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 29 and 30. The Winnebagoland BMX State Championship takes place on the Winnebagoland BMX track. This sanctioned USA BMX track is a lot of fun and a great place for kids to socialize, exercise and develop a new active hobby. The track holds races and practice sessions every week from May through October.

There are some great events happening every week this summer. The Waterfest Concert Series has a fantastic act to finish off the season at the Leach Amphitheater. Thursday, Aug. 27, catch Hairball!, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real, Road Trip. It should be a great way to cap off another fun and successful year of Waterfest concerts at the Leach.

Saturday, Aug. 29, the Leach Amphitheater will be rocking for a great cause with a famous headliner. Stephen Pearcy, the founder and former lead singer of RATT, will bring his unforgettable voice to the Rock for Autism. Also performing: Daphni, Sedated, Eminence, Sonic Circus and the Red Light Saints. All proceeds from this high-energy night will benefit those with autism in Wisconsin.

The Oshkosh Public Museum is hosting the exhibit, the Great War to Great Gatsby: 1914-1929, which focuses on an intriguing era of high prosperity in the United States. The exhibit tells the story of this important era through film, photographs and iconic artifacts. The exhibition runs through Sunday, Oct. 18.

On Friday nights, enjoy free movies at the Time Cinema. Show times are at 7 p.m.. and the theater is at 445 N. Main St. This Friday’s movie is “Rock ’n’ Roll High School.”

The Sunnyview Expo Center has some more great horse shows coming up. An Appaloosa show is at the center Friday, Aug. 28, and the WQHA State Horse Show takes place Thursday, Sept. 3.

The Dressing Downton exhibit is continuing to draw fans of the popular PBS series “Downton Abbey” to the Paine Art Center and Gardens. The exhibit features more than three dozen period costumes. The exhibit provides a great chance to learn about the show and its characters in a new way. The exhibit runs through Sunday, Sept. 20.

Browse the season’s best produce at the Oshkosh Farmer’s Market. The market features fresh fruits, vegetables, craft items and more. You’ll find the market Saturdays at 8 a.m. on the 400 and 500 blocks of North Main Street and the 100 block of Church Avenue.

On the Loos Cocktail Cruises are a great way to experience Oshkosh on the water. The cruises continue into the fall and depart from the River Walk, next to the Ground Round at River’s Edge, 1 N. Main St. The trips last two hours and depart Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Fridays at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Call 920-479-0270 for reservations.

On Friday nights, catch the races at the Oshkosh SpeedZone. This has been a fantastic season but it’s winding down – be sure to catch the Corn Belt Clash Friday, Aug. 28. The track is at 500 E. County Highway Y.
