Lake Winnebago’s Ice fishing season has essentially concluded, and now the long wait for ice out is occurring.  At this point, the local clubs have pulled their bridges and the access points have become compromised.

There is still ice on the lake, but anyone making the journey onto Lake Winnebago’s ice surface is taking a major life risk.  We highly encourage safety, and do not want to give any individual a false sense of security.

At this point of the season, we will suspend the Winnebago fishing reports until open water emerges on the rivers.  In the meantime, we will keep you updated on the Fox River (DePere) Walleye run and the Milwaukee Harbor trout activity.

On Wednesday, at the Metro Launch in Green Bay, one boat launch ramp was open.  A backhoe was used to break up the ice, creating access to the river.  Ice flows are common as they move down the river.

Also on Wednesday March 11, the Voyageur Park launch in DePere was still ice locked.  Continued warmth and some human help may allow this launch to open within the next week.  Stay tuned to the myfishingpartner Facebook page for updates.

In Milwaukee, the season has opened for Lake Trout.  The Harbor is “good to go” for boat traffic.  However, ultra-clear water has pushed many of the fish out of the harbor.  We will need some dirty water for these fish to return back to the harbor.

In the meantime, it’s time to put away the short rods, and get the long rods out.  This is a great time to replace or charge your boat batteries.

Many of you are awaiting the Lake Erie video.  Chase is working on the project and expects to have it live by week’s end.   Videos of a 29” walleye coming up the hole, and the massive 15 pound walleye will be featured.
