2015 proved to provide a weak year class of walleyes, as many had suspected with the less than an ideal Spring on the Winnebago system.  The class was equal to the 2009 class, and slightly better than the subpar 2014 walleye class.

One of the major take aways was the growth rates on the 2013 class of walleyes on Lake Winnebago.  A typical 3 year old walleye on the Winnebago system is about 15 inches.  This year’s class has grown only to 12 inches, exhibiting unusually slow growth rates.  This is being attributed to low forage populations.

Yellow perch number trended higher in 2015, but only slightly from one of the lowest tallies on record in 2014.

If it is any consolation, The sheephead hatch was near record highs!
